A Man and a Woman ( also known as Un homme et une femme) is a French language film which tells the story of a widow and a widower who meet at their children's school who become close friends, but whose relationship has a problem at going further because of the strong feelings the woman still feels for her dead husband. It stars Anouk Aimée and Jean-Louis Trintignant.
The movie was written by Claude Lelouch and Pierre Uytterhoeven, and directed by Lelouch.
It won Academy Awards for Best Foreign Language Film (France) and Best Writing, Story and Screenplay - Written Directly for the Screen. It was nominated for Best Actress in a Leading Role (Anouk Aimée) and Best Director.
A sequel, Un homme et une femme, 20 ans déjà (A Man and a Woman: 20 Years Later) was released in 1986.
