The Honourable Albert Matthews (1873-1949), served as the 16th Lieutenant Governor of Ontario from 1937 to 1946.

Born in 1873 in Lindsay, Ontario, Albert Matthews became an investment broker in Toronto, and later a company director. He was Chairman of McMaster University in Hamilton. Matthews served as Lieutenant Governor of Ontario from 1937 to 1946. During his time in Office, he did little entertaining and gave vast sums of money to charities to help ease the burden of the Depression. Matthews died in Windermere, Ontario, in 1949.
