Andrzej Sapkowski, (born June 21, 1948) is a polish fantasy writer. His first novel, Hexer, was published in Fantastyka in 1986 and was an enormous success. The Hexer cycle consists of both novels and short stories (Wiedzmin 1990, Miecz przeznaczenia 1992, Ostatnie zyczenie 1993, Krew Elfow 1994, Czas pogardy 1995, Chrzest ognia 1996, Wieza jaskolki 1997, Pani jeziora 1999) which made him the bestselling author in Poland in the 1990s.

He also published a number of other novels and articles (Cos sie konczy, cos sie zaczyna 2000, Swiat krola Artura. Maladie 1995, Rekopis znaleziony smoczej w jaskini 2001, Oko Yrrhedesa 1995). Currently (2001) he's working on a new fantasy cycle, which supposedly will be placed in Europe, Silesia, in the beginning of the 13th century, with the title Narrenturm.

Recently the collection of short stories from the Hexer cycle were put to screen, but the resulting film is considered a major flaw.\n
