The Arbre du Ténéré was famous in being the most isolated tree on the planet. About 400 km from the nearest tree, it was shown on a map at a scale of 1:4,000,000. It was an Acacia, belonging probably to the species Acacia raddiana and may have been 300 years old. The tree was hit in 1973 by a Libyan truck.
