Bryan is a city located in Williams County, Ohio. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 8,333. It is the county seat of Williams County6.

Geography

Bryan is located at 41°28'22" North, 84°33'7" West (41.472692, -84.551928)1. It is at an altitude of 764 feet above sea level.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 11.8 km² (4.6 mi²). 11.8 km² (4.6 mi²) of it is land and none of the area is covered with water.

History

Bryan was settled in 1840 and incorporated as a village in 1841. It was reincorporated as a city in 1941. In 1950 Bryan had a population of 6,365 people.

Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there are 8,333 people, 3,528 households, and 2,155 families residing in the city. The population density is 704.0/km² (1,821.7/mi²). There are 3,733 housing units at an average density of 315.4/km² (816.1/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 96.23% White, 0.31% African American, 0.23% Native American, 0.71% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 1.40% from other races, and 1.12% from two or more races. 3.73% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 3,528 households out of which 29.7% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 45.7% are married couples living together, 11.4% have a female householder with no husband present, and 38.9% are non-families. 32.9% of all households are made up of individuals and 13.7% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.31 and the average family size is 2.94.

In the city the population is spread out with 24.8% under the age of 18, 8.4% from 18 to 24, 28.7% from 25 to 44, 22.0% from 45 to 64, and 16.1% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 37 years. For every 100 females there are 90.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 84.2 males.

The median income for a household in the city is $36,978, and the median income for a family is $45,965. Males have a median income of $34,641 versus $22,434 for females. The per capita income for the city is $19,459. 6.0% of the population and 3.9% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 5.1% are under the age of 18 and 5.9% are 65 or older.
