Dr Caroline Lucas MEP (born December 9, 1960) is an English politician, and member of the European Parliament for the South East of England, since 1999. She is a member of the Green Party. She had previously been a councillor on Oxfordshire County Council, from 1993 to 1997, and has held national office in the party.

She earned her Ph.D from the University of Exeter in 1989 with a thesis titled Writing for women: a study of woman as reader in Elizabethan romance. [1]
