\nAccording to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 2,393 km² (924 mi²). 2,391 km² (923 mi²) of it is land and 2 km² (1 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.10% water.
Demographics
\nAs of the census2 of 2000, there are 6,516 people, 2,470 households, and 1,884 families residing in the county. The population density is 3/km² (7/mi²). There are 2,815 housing units at an average density of 1/km² (3/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 93.82% White, 0.58% Black or African American, 1.00% Native American, 0.14% Asian, 0.02% Pacific Islander, 3.04% from other races, and 1.41% from two or more races. 7.03% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 2,470 households out of which 35.80% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 65.30% are married couples living together, 8.10% have a female householder with no husband present, and 23.70% are non-families. 22.30% of all households are made up of individuals and 11.30% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.60 and the average family size is 3.04.
