Chetek is a town located in Barron County, Wisconsin. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 1,686.

United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 86.9 km² (33.6 mi²). 78.9 km² (30.5 mi²) of it is land and 8.1 km² (3.1 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 9.29% water.

census of 2000, there are 1,686 people, 707 households, and 542 families residing in the town. The population density is 21.4/km² (55.4/mi²). There are 1,073 housing units at an average density of 13.6 persons/km² (35.2 persons/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 98.64% White, 0.18% African American, 0.18% Native American, 0.18% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.06% from other races, and 0.77% from two or more races. 0.53% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 707 households out of which 23.9% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 68.3% are married couples living together, 4.8% have a woman whose husband does not live with her, and 23.2% are non-families. 20.4% of all households are made up of individuals and 10.2% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.38 and the average family size is 2.73.
