The band Christian Death was started in 1981 by Rozz Williams, then only 16 years of age. Rozz recorded their 1st album Only Theatre Of Pain, a raw death rock album with gothic anthems "Spiritual Cramp" and "Romeo's Distress", and EP Deathwish. Following these releases, 3 other people joined the band: Valor Kand, Gitane Demone and David Glass, who were collectively known as Pompeii 99. Pompeii's manager persuaded Valor to keep the name Christian Death.

As a foursome they recorded 2 more albums, Ashes and Catastrophe Ballet. After these two albums Rozz left the band and Valor took over the vocals, and the name Christian Death.

It wasn't long after Rozz's departure that Gitane left Christian Death, and then lover Valor, to team up with Rozz Williams, and concentrate on a solo project.

After lots of albums and legal battles - Rozz came out of "retirement" and toured using the name Christian Death, later established that his record label made him as he couldn't afford to live - Valor wasn't happy with this as he had now trademarked the name Christian Death, and changed the sound quite considerably, to a more haunting atmospheric yet still a little rocky.

On April 1, 1998, Rozz Williams hung himself. Many blamed Valor, yet he considered Rozz "...a friend till the end", and was upset that he never got to see him before he died.

Around this time Valor recruited a new bassist Maitri, and re-established Christian Death as a rock outfit with the album Sexy Death God. Following this Christian Death got heavier and lost a lot of the gothic style for a more rock sound, this is shown on their last album Born Again Anti-Christian which features members of goth metallers Cradle Of Filth, including Dani Filth himself.
