Comedy Central is a cable television network in the United States. As its name implies, the network carries a lot of comedy programming, both syndicated and self-produced.

The network was co-owned by AOL Time Warner and Viacom for a time, but Viacom bought AOL's half in early 2003. Comedy Central started in the late 1980s as HBO's Comedy Channel; in 1990, Comedy Channel merged with Viacom's HA! channel, thus the dual ownership (Comedy Central's corporate name for many years was Comedy Partners L.P.)
