Cooperate social responsibilty is the idea that Corporations have a duty to improve the community around them. Typically, this is done by spending money on community improving projects, endowing scholarships, and/or encouraging workers to volunteer (Blood drives and reading programs are common examples).

For many corporations, which are stereotypically (and in some cases quite correctly) considered to be souless, these community outreach programs create a tide of good will in the community. This indirectly benefits the bottom line. For example, the McDonald's Corporation established the Ronald McDonald House.
