Danzig was the capital city of the Hanseatic League. The Danziger Willkuer (English: Danzig Law) or law records are recorded in the Preussische Urkundenbuch, Regesten or law books of the Province of Prussia.

The official records of German cities, and those established on the German templates, principalities and the Hanseatic League were verified by attaching seals (sigilla), to ensure authenticity.

History

The seal of the newly founded city of Danzig of 1224 stated as follows: SIGILLUM BURGENSIUM DANTZIKE

'Danziger Willkuer' was recorded in 1597 as follows:

Der See - und Handelsstadt Dantzig Rechte oder Willkuer 1597 (Laws or Willkuer of the Sea and Trade City Dantzig 1597).

The law codes of Danzig were reprinted in 1732 by Seelmann in Danzig and several times thereafter in miscellaneous other locations.
