Flagg died at 62 in the crash of American Airlines Flight 77 in the September 11, 2001 Terrorist Attack. She was traveling with her husband, Wilson "Bud" Flagg, and friend, Barbara G. Edwards, to Las Vegas at the time of the crash.

She is survived by two sons, Marc and Michael Flagg, and other family.

Mrs. Flagg was vice-president of the Newcomers Club and president of the Ridgefield Woman’s Club, where she was involved in the design, fund-raising and construction of the bandstand in Ballard Park. She was also involved in establishing the brick walkway around the bandstand. She was also active in Keeler Tavern, where she worked in the gift shop and helped expand the selling of crafts. “She did an awful lot for the town that people didn’t know about,” said Shirley Hodgdon, a friend. “Dee was a person that was very generous and would do anything to help anybody. She was very dedicated to the town of Ridgefield.” Mrs. Flagg was a 1960 graduate of the University of California, Santa Barbara. In 1961, she was a schoolteacher in Annapolis, Md. She was an artist and was involved in fostering children’s artistic talent. In Virginia, she was active in Grace Lutheran Church and the Greenway Garden Club of Clarke County.

The Flaggs moved to Millwood, Virginia around 1993 to start Daybreak Farm, a cattle farm.
