Emory is a city located in Rains County, Texas. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 1,021. It is the county seat of Rains County6.

census of 2000, there are 1,021 people, 410 households, and 261 families residing in the city. The population density is 254.3/km² (660.1/mi²). There are 481 housing units at an average density of 119.8/km² (311.0/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 90.50% White, 5.48% African American, 0.39% Native American, 0.29% Asian, 0.39% Pacific Islander, 1.86% from other races, and 1.08% from two or more races. 2.94% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 410 households out of which 32.4% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 43.9% are married couples living together, 17.1% have a female householder with no husband present, and 36.3% are non-families. 33.4% of all households are made up of individuals and 21.2% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.32 and the average family size is 2.93. In the city the population is spread out with 25.5% under the age of 18, 8.2% from 18 to 24, 26.2% from 25 to 44, 18.5% from 45 to 64, and 21.6% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 38 years. For every 100 females there are 82.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 76.2 males. The median income for a household in the city is $30,119, and the median income for a family is $34,375. Males have a median income of $31,685 versus $18,393 for females.
