The Falkenberg family consisted of Charles S. Falkenberg, Leslie A. Whittington, and their daughters Zoe Falkenberg & Dana Falkenberg. They died in the crash of American Airlines flight 77 in the September 11, 2001 Terrorist Attack. They were on their way to Australia for Leslie's sabbatical from her work.

Charles and Leslie met at East High School in Denver, Colorado, however they did not date till after graduation. Around 1989 the couple moved to Maryland.

Leslie received her master's degree in economics from the University of Colorado in 1987 and her doctoral degree in 1989. She received a bachelor's degree in business from Regis College's School for Professional Studies in 1984. She is known nationally in the U.S for her research on marital disincentives created by the "marriage tax". Whittington was an associate professor of public policy for Georgetown University. Charles was a software engineer for ECOlogic Corp in Herndon, Virginia.

Charles and Leslie both died aged 45. Zoe Falkenberg (November 8, 1992 - September 11, 2001) died aged eight. Dana Falkenberg (July 21,1998 - September 11, 2001) died aged three.
