Farm Island Township is a township located in Aitkin County, Minnesota. As of the 2000 census, the township had a total population of 1,071.

Geography

United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 92.4 km² (35.7 mi²). 72.7 km² (28.1 mi²) of it is land and 19.7 km² (7.6 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 21.36% water.

Demographics

\nAs of the
census of 2000, there are 1,071 people, 434 households, and 335 families residing in the township. The population density is 14.7/km² (38.2/mi²). There are 1,116 housing units at an average density of 15.4/km² (39.8/mi²). The racial makeup of the township is 98.04% White, 0.28% African American, 0.28% Native American, 0.09% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.56% from other races, and 0.75% from two or more races. 0.19% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 434 households out of which 25.6% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 71.4% are married couples living together, 3.5% have a female householder with no husband present, and 22.8% are non-families. 19.1% of all households are made up of individuals and 9.0% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.47 and the average family size is 2.79. In the township the population is spread out with 21.5% under the age of 18, 5.5% from 18 to 24, 20.4% from 25 to 44, 32.9% from 45 to 64, and 19.7% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 47 years. For every 100 females there are 108.0 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 107.7 males.
