Geography

According to the United States Census Bureau, the place has a total area of 6.7 km² (2.6 mi²). 6.1 km² (2.3 mi²) of it is land and 0.6 km² (0.2 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 8.95% water.

Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there are 1,935 people, 864 households, and 529 families residing in the area. The population density is 319.3/km² (826.8/mi²). There are 914 housing units at an average density of 150.8 persons/km² (390.6 persons/mi²). The racial makeup of the community is 97.00% White, 0.93% African American, 0.41% Native American, 0.67% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.10% from other races, and 0.88% from two or more races. 0.57% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 864 households out of which 29.7% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 44.3% are married couples living together, 14.4% have a woman whose husband does not live with her, and 38.7% are non-families. 33.7% of all households are made up of individuals and 11.3% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.20 and the average family size is 2.78.

In the community the population is spread out with 23.7% under the age of 18, 8.0% from 18 to 24, 26.6% from 25 to 44, 25.2% from 45 to 64, and 16.6% who are 65 years of age or older.
