Farmington is a town located in Franklin County, Maine. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 4,098.

\nAccording to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 10.5 km² (4.1 mi²). 10.4 km² (4.0 mi²) of it is land and 0.1 km² (0.0 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.49% water.

\nAs of the census of 2000, there are 4,098 people, 1,568 households, and 625 families residing in the town. The population density is 392.6/km² (1,015.8/mi²). There are 1,668 housing units at an average density of 159.8 persons/km² (413.4 persons/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 96.88% White, 0.37% African American, 0.32% Native American, 0.93% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.24% from other races, and 1.27% from two or more races. 0.85% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 1,568 households out of which 18.2% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 28.4% are married couples living together, 9.2% have a woman whose husband does not live with her, and 60.1% are non-families. 40.8% of all households are made up of individuals and 15.6% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 1.99 and the average family size is 2.72.
