Fort Valley is a city located in Peach County, Georgia. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 8,005. The city is the county seat of Peach County6. Fort Valley is corporate headquarters for the Blue Bird Corporation, a large manufacturer of buses.

There are 3,303 housing units at an average density of 242.0/km² (627.0/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 22.10% White, 74.65% African American, 0.37% Native American, 0.25% Asian, 0.05% Pacific Islander, 1.85% from other races, and 0.72% from two or more races. 4.37% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 3,050 households out of which 30.6% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 25.9% are married couples living together, 30.9% have a female householder with no husband present, and 38.4% are non-families. 29.1% of all households are made up of individuals and 10.4% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.57 and the average family size is 3.20. In the city the population is spread out with 27.3% under the age of 18, 16.9% from 18 to 24, 26.0% from 25 to 44, 18.3% from 45 to 64, and 11.4% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 28 years. For every 100 females there are 86.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 81.8 males.
