The racial makeup of the city is 87.32% White, 5.75% African American, 0.19% Native American, 0.48% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 3.60% from other races, and 2.66% from two or more races. 7.92% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 5,565 households out of which 32.0% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 44.9% are married couples living together, 15.1% have a female householder with no husband present, and 34.8% are non-families. 29.6% of all households are made up of individuals and 12.7% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.46 and the average family size is 3.03.
