Fuzhou is a city on the coast of China, the largest city in and capital of Fujian province.

History

Fuzhou was established during the Tang Dynasty. Marco Polo transcribedd the placename in Italian as Fugiu.

Fuzhou, or Foochow as it was then anglicized, was one of the five Chinese treaty ports opened by the Treaty of Nanjing (signed in 1842) at the end of the First Opium War between Britain and China.
