Gary Doer (March 31, 1948) is the current NDP Premier of Manitoba. He was first elected to the Manitoba legislature in 1986 and became Minister of Urban Affairs under premier Howard Pawley. After Pawley's election defeat in the 1988 election Gary Doer was elected to replace him. For the next eleven years he served as leader of the opposition until in the 1999 election the NDP won and he became premier. Him and his party were reelected in 2003.
