Main Page | See live article | Alphabetical index George H. Ryan (born 1934) was the governor of Illinois from 1999 until 2003. He was a member of the U.S. Republican Party. He was elected governor in 1998, defeating his Democratic opponent, congressman Glenn Poshard 51%-47%. He did not run for reelection in 2002. In 2003 he was indicted on corruption charges.
