Grand Chute is a town located in Outagamie County, Wisconsin. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 18,392.

Grand Chute was the home town of Senator Joseph McCarthy.

Geography

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 64.6 km² (25.0 mi²). 64.5 km² (24.9 mi²) of it is land and 0.2 km² (0.1 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.32% water.

Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there are 18,392 people, 7,586 households, and 4,688 families residing in the town. The population density is 285.3/km² (739.1/mi²). There are 7,965 housing units at an average density of 123.6/km² (320.1/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 94.28% White, 0.77% African American, 0.40% Native American, 1.52% Asian, 0.08% Pacific Islander, 1.87% from other races, and 1.08% from two or more races. 3.53% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 7,586 households out of which 29.6% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 53.2% are married couples living together, 5.9% have a female householder with no husband present, and 38.2% are non-families. 28.6% of all households are made up of individuals and 8.5% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.38 and the average family size is 3.00.

In the town the population is spread out with 23.4% under the age of 18, 11.2% from 18 to 24, 31.2% from 25 to 44, 22.6% from 45 to 64, and 11.6% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 35 years. For every 100 females there are 99.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 96.6 males.
