\nGrand County is a county located in the U.S. State of Utah. As of 2000, the population is 8,485. It was named for the Colorado River, which at the time was known as the Grande River. Its county seat is Moab6.

\nAccording to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 9,568 km² (3,694 mi²). 9,535 km² (3,682 mi²) of it is land and 32 km² (13 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.34% water.

census2 of 2000, there are 8,485 people, 3,434 households, and 2,170 families residing in the county. The population density is 1/km² (2/mi²). There are 4,062 housing units at an average density of 0/km² (1/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 92.65% White, 0.25% Black or African American, 3.85% Native American, 0.22% Asian, 0.05% Pacific Islander, 1.66% from other races, and 1.32% from two or more races. 5.55% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 3,434 households out of which 29.80% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 48.60% are married couples living together, 10.70% have a female householder with no husband present, and 36.80% are non-families. 29.50% of all households are made up of individuals and 9.50% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.44 and the average family size is 3.06. In the county, the population is spread out with 26.90% under the age of 18, 8.20% from 18 to 24, 27.90% from 25 to 44, 24.50% from 45 to 64, and 12.50% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 37 years. For every 100 females there are 96.30 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 95.10 males. The median income for a household in the county is $32,387, and the median income for a family is $39,095. Males have a median income of $31,000 versus $21,769 for females. The per capita income for the county is $17,356. 14.80% of the population and 10.90% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 21.20% are under the age of 18 and 8.40% are 65 or older.
