\nAccording to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 1,088 km² (420 mi²). 1,079 km² (416 mi²) of it is land and 9 km² (3 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.83% water.

The racial makeup of the county is 95.33% White, 0.58% Black or African American, 0.26% Native American, 0.42% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 2.56% from other races, and 0.85% from two or more races. 5.40% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 10,935 households out of which 35.20% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 61.10% are married couples living together, 8.10% have a female householder with no husband present, and 27.20% are non-families. 23.50% of all households are made up of individuals and 10.40% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.62 and the average family size is 3.10.
