The racial makeup of the city is 94.50% White, 1.91% African American, 1.08% Native American, 0.12% Asian, 0.04% Pacific Islander, 0.16% from other races, and 2.19% from two or more races. 1.08% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 990 households out of which 36.3% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 48.8% are married couples living together, 11.8% have a female householder with no husband present, and 33.7% are non-families. 29.3% of all households are made up of individuals and 13.1% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.53 and the average family size is 3.11.
