How the Grinch Stole Christmas! is a book by Dr. Seuss in which the Grinch, a bitter green being with a heart "two sizes too small" lives on a snowy hilltop above Whoville with his faithful dog making plans to descend on the town and rob them of their Christmas presents and decorations to prevent Christmas from occurring. However, he learns in the end that despite the fact that he successfully stole all the Christmas presents and decorations from the Whovillians, Christmas still came. He than realizes that Christmas is more than just gifts and presents. His heart grows three sizes larger and he returns all the presents.

The book was adapted to television in 1966 as an animated TV special, directed by Chuck Jones. It starred Boris Karloff as the voice of the Grinch. The song You're a Mean One, Mr. Grinch was sung by Thurl Ravenscroft. The cartoon is typically on the Internet Movie Database's list of top 250 films.

In 2000, the book was also made into a live-action film, directed by Ron Howard and starring Jim Carrey as the Grinch.
