History In 1963, the then Prime Minister of Singapore, Mr Lee Kuan Yew, made Jurong the initial constituency on his first visit to constituencies in the Republic. At the time, Jurong was without a citizen's consultative committee. However, this did not deter them. Instead, they responded through its community leaders. Jurong was then being developed into a industrial town, streching towards Tuas, a reclaimed land near to Jurong.
