Lapeer is a city located in Lapeer County, Michigan. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 9,072. It is the county seat of Lapeer County6.

census of 2000, there are 9,072 people, 3,443 households, and 1,979 families residing in the city. The population density is 631.1/km² (1,635.5/mi²). There are 3,658 housing units at an average density of 254.5/km² (659.5/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 89.91% White, 5.95% African American, 0.47% Native American, 0.57% Asian, 0.03% Pacific Islander, 1.09% from other races, and 1.96% from two or more races. 3.33% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 3,443 households out of which 33.0% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 38.3% are married couples living together, 15.7% have a female householder with no husband present, and 42.5% are non-families. 36.8% of all households are made up of individuals and 14.2% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.29 and the average family size is 3.02. In the city the population is spread out with 24.6% under the age of 18, 9.9% from 18 to 24, 36.5% from 25 to 44, 17.1% from 45 to 64, and 11.9% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 33 years. For every 100 females there are 106.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 110.6 males.
