Large format describes photographic films, cameras, and processes that produce negatives 4 x 5 inches or larger. Large format film is most often used in view cameras, but is also used in pinhole cameras.

Common large format film sizes (in inches):

  • 4x5
  • 5x7
  • 4x10
  • 5x12
  • 8x10
  • 11x14
  • 8x20
  • 12x20
  • 20x24
  • 30x40

One could cut a piece of film to any size above 4x5 and it would qualify as large format.
