Counts of Anjou, c.870-1203

In 1204, Anjou was lost to King Philip II of France. It was re-granted as an apanage for Louis VIII's youngest son, Charles (later the first Angevin King of Sicily.)

  • Charles II 1285-1290 (d.1309)
    • In 1290, he gave up Anjou as a dower for his daughter, Marguerite, who married Charles de Valois, younger brother of King Philip IV of France.

    • bestowed the territory on his son,
  • Jean, Duke of Normandy 1332-1356 (King of France 1350-1364)
    • bestowed the territory on his second son,
