The Maine Coon is one of the largest breeds of domestic cat. The breed was created in North America and has very long dense fur, and a bushy tail that is often striped. Maine Coons are large energetic cats often exceeding 25 pounds. Although they are most known for tabby-coloring, many coat colors exist.

The name comes from the legend that a domestic cat released in the wilds of Maine interbred with a Raccoon, resulting in offspring with the Maine Coon characteristics.
