Marina del Rey is a town located in Los Angeles County, California. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 8,176.
The Fisherman's Village offers a good view of Marina del Rey's dominant feature, a large man-made harbor with about 6000 pleasure boats and yachts. The marina is surrounded by many hotels and restaurants, as well as the USC Information Sciences Institute and ICANN, the "Center" of the Internet.
Marina del Rey is located at 33°58'46" North, 118°27'10" West (33.979361, -118.452912)1. It is located between Santa Monica and Venice to the north, and the Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) to the south.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 3.8 km² (1.5 mi²). 2.3 km² (0.9 mi²) of it is land and 1.5 km² (0.6 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 40.14% water.
As of the census of 2000, there are 8,176 people, 5,315 households, and 1,520 families residing in the town. The population density is 3,587.2/km² (9,289.5/mi²). There are 6,321 housing units at an average density of 2,773.4/km² (7,181.8/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 82.46% White, 4.68% African American, 0.16% Native American, 8.21% Asian, 0.16% Pacific Islander, 1.30% from other races, and 3.03% from two or more races. 5.34% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 5,315 households out of which 6.7% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 22.7% are married couples living together, 3.6% have a female householder with no husband present, and 71.4% are non-families. 57.3% of all households are made up of individuals and 6.8% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older.
