Mayersville is a town located in
Issaquena County, Mississippi. As of the
2000 census, the town had a total population of 795. Mayersville was after David Mayer, on whose plantation the town was built. It is the
county seat of
Issaquena County6.
One of its more famous inhabitants was Unita Blackwell Wright, Mississippi's first black female mayor, who was elected in 1977. She became president of the of the US National Conference of Black Mayors.
