Miguel Hidalgo is named in honour of the hero of the Independence of Mexico, Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla. The borough includes Lomas de Chapultepec. In the July 2003 local election, Miguel Hidalgo was one of only two delegaciones to elect a borough mayor from the National Action Party.
