Main Page | See live article | Alphabetical index The National People's Army (German: Nationale Volksarmee, NVA) was the army of East Germany. It was founded in March 1, 1956. It was a professional, volunteer army until 1962, when conscription was introduced. Conscription was for at least 18 months and adult males between 18 and 26 were eligible.
