There are 7,981 households out of which 35.0% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 36.3% are married couples living together, 27.4% have a female householder with no husband present, and 31.0% are non-families. 26.3% of all households are made up of individuals and 6.6% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.57 and the average family size is 3.08. In the town the population is spread out with 29.7% under the age of 18, 10.1% from 18 to 24, 29.4% from 25 to 44, 20.8% from 45 to 64, and 10.1% who are 65 years of age or older.
