Newton Township is a township located in Mackinac County, Michigan. As of the 2000 census, the township had a total population of 356.

Geography

United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 401.2 km² (154.9 mi²). 384.9 km² (148.6 mi²) of it is land and 16.3 km² (6.3 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 4.06% water.

census of 2000, there are 356 people, 170 households, and 108 families residing in the township. The population density is 0.9/km² (2.4/mi²). There are 377 housing units at an average density of 1.0/km² (2.5/mi²). The racial makeup of the township is 91.01% White, 0.00% African American, 7.02% Native American, 0.00% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.00% from other races, and 1.97% from two or more races. 0.00% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 170 households out of which 15.9% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 57.6% are married couples living together, 5.3% have a female householder with no husband present, and 35.9% are non-families. 28.8% of all households are made up of individuals and 11.8% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.09 and the average family size is 2.53.
