Ni putes ni Soumises (Neither bitches nor submissives) is a French movement.
It was set up by a group of French girls and women, tired of being harassed by boys and men in poor surburbs ("banlieues"). The slogan used by the movement is meant both to shock and mobilize. They particularly protest against changes of attitudes toward women due to a rise in radical Islam in French suburbs mostly inhabited by immigrants from Maghreb. A particular matter of concern is the treatment of Muslim women, who are pressured into wearing veils, leaving school, and getting married early.
