North Las Vegas is a city located in Clark County, Nevada. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 115,488.

North Las Vegas is probably best known, besides being part of the Las Vegas metropolitan area, for being the location of Nellis Air Force Base.

Geography

North Las Vegas is located at 36°13'43" North, 115°8'48" West (36.228511, -115.146593)1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 203.3 km² (78.5 mi²). 203.3 km² (78.5 mi²) of it is land and none of it is covered by water.

Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there are 115,488 people, 34,018 households, and 27,112 families residing in the city. The population density is 568.0/km² (1,471.0/mi²). There are 36,600 housing units at an average density of 180.0/km² (466.2/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 55.93% White, 19.02% African American, 0.82% Native American, 3.24% Asian, 0.53% Pacific Islander, 15.78% from other races, and 4.68% from two or more races. 37.61% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 34,018 households out of which 47.8% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 57.3% are married couples living together, 15.2% have a female householder with no husband present, and 20.3% are non-families. 13.6% of all households are made up of individuals and 3.2% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 3.36 and the average family size is 3.67.

In the city the population is spread out with 33.9% under the age of 18, 9.6% from 18 to 24, 34.3% from 25 to 44, 16.4% from 45 to 64, and 5.8% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 29 years. For every 100 females there are 104.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 103.1 males.

The median income for a household in the city is $46,057, and the median income for a family is $46,540. Males have a median income of $32,205 versus $25,836 for females. The per capita income for the city is $16,023. 14.8% of the population and 11.8% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 19.6% are under the age of 18 and 8.8% are 65 or older.
