North Potomac is an uncorporated area located in Montgomery County, Maryland.

Geography

As an unincorporated area, North Potomac's boundaries are not officially defined. North Potomac is, however, recognized by the United States Census Bureau as a Census-designated Place, and by the United States Geological Survey as a populated place located at 39°5'50" North, 77°14'3" West (39.097206, -77.234213)1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the place has a total area of 17.0 km² (6.6 mi²). 16.9 km² (6.5 mi²) of it is land and none of it is covered by water.

Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there are 23,044 people, 6,924 households, and 6,245 families residing in the area. The population density is 1,360.4/km² (3,522.1/mi²). There are 7,002 housing units at an average density of 413.4/km² (1,070.2/mi²). The racial makeup of the area is 64.64% White, 4.21% African American, 0.13% Native American, 27.59% Asian, 0.04% Pacific Islander, 1.08% from other races, and 2.30% from two or more races. 3.94% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 6,924 households out of which 60.0% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 79.9% are married couples living together, 7.9% have a female householder with no husband present, and 9.8% are non-families. 7.6% of all households are made up of individuals and 1.0% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 3.33 and the average family size is 3.51.

In the area, the population is spread out with 34.2% under the age of 18, 5.7% from 18 to 24, 29.2% from 25 to 44, 27.2% from 45 to 64, and 3.7% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 36 years. For every 100 females there are 97.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 93.7 males.

The median income for a household in the area is $109,173, and the median income for a family is $112,277. Males have a median income of $81,216 versus $49,634 for females. The per capita income for the area is $37,573. 2.1% of the population and 1.5% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 2.6% are under the age of 18 and 4.4% are 65 or older.
