The Order of British Columbia is British Columbia's highest award for outstanding achievement. Established by statute in 1989 the award is appointed by The Lieutenant-Governor of British Columbia based on recommendations from an advisory council.
The advisory council includes:
- The Chief Justice of British Columbia - Chairperson
- The Speaker of the Legislative Assembly
- The President, in turn, of British Columbia's Public Universities, for a two-year term
- The President of the Union of B.C. Municipalities
- The Deputy Minister responsible for the Order of British Columbia
- Two past recipients of the Order
- Bryan Adams
- Dr. Geoffrey Ballard
- Raffi Cavoukian
