In Christian religion, Parousia (from Greek language), literally means the presence of Christ. In Christian Eschatology, the presence of Christ is also referred to as the Second Coming of Christ. Throughout the New Testament, Jesus Christ described his return as parousia, i.e. him being present in this world with his followers.

The study and use of the term parousia has been revived in the late 19th century with the growth of preterism and the publishing of James Stuart Russell's book The Parousia, A Careful Look at the New Testament Doctrine of the Lord's Second Coming.
