Peach Lake is a "census designated place" located in the Town of Southeast in Putnam County, New York. As of the 2000 census, it had a total population of 1,671. The lake itself stretches to Westchester County, New York. The Ryder family, who have for generations controlled the Putnam County National Bank, have farmed land in Peach Lake since the 18th century.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 7.9 km² (3.1 mi²). 7.0 km² (2.7 mi²) of it is land and 0.9 km² (0.4 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 11.76% water.

Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there are 1,671 people, 617 households, and 468 families residing in the town. The population density is 239.0/km² (619.2/mi²). There are 743 housing units at an average density of 106.2/km² (275.3/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 97.19% White, 0.54% African American, 0.12% Native American, 0.78% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.42% from other races, and 0.96% from two or more races. 2.63% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 617 households out of which 37.4% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 64.0% are married couples living together, 9.4% have a female householder with no husband present, and 24.1% are non-families. 20.7% of all households are made up of individuals and 7.1% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older.
