Pocahontas is a city located in Randolph County, Arkansas. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 6,518. The city is the county seat of Randolph County6.

The racial makeup of the city is 97.27% White, 1.10% Black or African American, 0.44% Native American, 0.08% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.20% from other races, and 0.91% from two or more races. 0.89% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 2,693 households out of which 30.0% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 48.0% are married couples living together, 13.1% have a female householder with no husband present, and 35.3% are non-families. 31.9% of all households are made up of individuals and 17.3% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.32 and the average family size is 2.94.
