The band was fronted by lead singer Ash Bowie, who later went on to play in the band Helium with Mary Timony and also started a solo project under the name Libraness. Math rock has been the term frequently used to describe Polvo's style. Polvo released two albums on Merge Records, Cor-Crane Secret in 1992 and Today's Active Lifestyles in 1993. Two subsequent albums were released on Touch & Go Records, Exploded Drawing in 1996 and Shapes in 1997.
