Born as a joke from singer/guitarist Steven Wilson in 1991, Porcupine Tree is an English progressive rock band. Wilson started his project as a one-man band, playing all the instruments and singing. Since the beginning the band clearly showed the influence of 1970s progressive rock, paying tribute to Pink Floyd.

As the project evolved, the personnel of the band grew, and it is currently composed of Wilson himself, Richard Barbieri (keyboard), Colin Edwin (bass) and Chris Maitland (drums).
