The President's Trophy is the award presented to the NHL team with the best regular season record. The award is a relatively recent creation and it is an honour considered far below the Stanley Cup. Winning the award is still very difficult, perhaps even more difficult that winning the Stanley Cup, as it is a competition of thirty teams each of which play 82 games between October and April each year. While only a minority of President's Trophy winners have gone on to win the cup, it remains the most likley position to produce the cup winner.
