Progreso is a port city in the state of Yucatán, Mexico, located on the Gulf of Mexico in the north-west of the state at 21.28°N 89.67°W, some 45 minutes north of the state capital of Mérida by highway. As of 2003, Progreso has an estimated population of about 45,000 people.

Progreso is a center for both the fishing industry and the container industry. All containers arrive in Progreso and are distributed to Yucatán, Campeche and Quintana Roo. Progresso also is the new port for large cruise ships, who usually stop for 24-36 hours and the passengers can visit Progreso or Mérida. There is a nice beach walk and many fine resturants located along the "Malecón" boardwalk along the beach. During the months of July and August the beachs fill with thousands of national and international tourists.
